Pre-flop Raising at an Aggressive Table

When you’re playing poker online, you are bound to find pocket hands that get you excited. Common knowledge will tell you to make a pre-flop raise with that hand to scare out the small hands and fatten the pot, but that’s not always the right choice. Depending on your hand and the personality of the table you’re at, you need to consider a few things before you decide whether or not to raise before the flop.

If you’re at an aggressive jeux de casino table, a pre-flop raise may not have the outcome you are hoping for. If you’ve got a killer hand right out of the gate like pocket Kings, Queens or Aces, a nice big raise could be just the thing to fatten the pot for you. Since you likely have top pair, you can affor to miss the flop without putting yourself too much at risk.

If you have a drawing poker onlinehand, things will be different. A pair of suited connectors, high connectors, Ace-anything suited, or fairly strong starters like Ace-Queen unsuited may not be enough to place a big pre-flop raise. At an aggressive table, you are unlikely to chase everyone out and gobble up pots like you would at a more passive table, and if your hand doesn’t hit on the flop, you are out of luck.
