How Is Sanctuary on a Story?

Missional church is definitely a trendy title that is all over the place these days. The fact that we have to label places of worship, missional, has always been somewhat strange to me. I ask you, shouldnt all churches be missional in their very character? why cant a church, at its very core, desire to connect their culture and area with the message of Jesus as a missionary would in a overseas country? Isnt this what the churches is encouraged to do in the final charge of Christ in Matthew 28:19? Our own place of origin deserves this kind of church. Churches in central Austin is slowly gravitating to what our Creator instructed in the Bible.

The messiah gives the challenge in Acts 1:8 saying, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 justifies this subject as, right before Jesus Christ leaves to go to Heaven, He sends the disciples on a mission that would start right in their local community. He begins with their area of Jerusalem, and then broadens the call to the far parts of the earth.

As followers of Christ, we are not urged to loneliness, but to be missional followers of Jesus who are passionately going out and going to areas right where they are with the good news. We have seen this throughout history: God moved Abraham on a mission to go out of his city and his people and go to the place that God would show him (Gen. 12:1), God motivated Moses on a story to save an enslaved people and lead them to joy (Exodus 3:8-10), God motivated Jesus on a exploration to globe to pull all things to Himself through the death of Jesus (Colossians 1:20). And now God is sending us on a story to engage areas, cities, people groups, and even nations with the good news (Matt. 28:19 Mark 6:7 Luke 10:1 John 20:21 Acts 1:8). If we reject this call and continue to treat the churches like a private country club ” requesting that people clean up their abilities, pay their dues, and walk to our building God will continue His mission without us.
